O.k so here it is! It has been 1 year ago that we received our Proc’s Huntin Buddy. During the past year our “Buddy” has been hanging tight in our 2 man ladder stand. We went out last weekend to see how he was holding up. To my suprise he was in the same plase and looked the same as he did the day we accepted him into the Whitetail Mafia Family. No fading, no tears, and dispite the straight line winds that took out trees all around him; he was still in one piece! So our first impression of the quality & craftsmanship that goes into these products stand true!

Now for the real question; does it work? The answer, Absolutely! At the beginning of the season we made a mock scrape just 17 yards from our “Huntin Buddy”. For about two weeks or so we didnt see much activity. When we went back out we saw several tracks leading toward the scrape as well as a broken limb above it. Throughout the season we noticed more and more tracks and the scrape grew Larger! Now here we are 1 year later and can definately say the deer in the area grew use to the human decoy. We only had the opportunity to hunt this spot once last season and Jason was able to harvest a mature doe 22 yards from the stand.. Not once did this mature doe hesitate as she walked down the same trail Procs Huntin Buddy had been watching for us.

If a picture can speak a thousand words then how many words does a trophy game mount speak? This week I have in my possesion a trophy; it is a special moment frozen in time. The special moment is when my nephew, Brian Galliher of Jennings County, Indiana, pulled this monstrous Large Mouth Bass from a local fishing hole. Now is this fish a state record…. no of course not. It is however going to be the most memorable fish of this young man’s long future of life in the outdoors. 

It is artifacts like this fish mounted on my nephew’s wall that will keep him striving to return to the outdoors time after time for the same success. If a picture can speak a thousand words than a game mount will whisper a million reminders and temptations to you to return to the outdoors that you love so very much. The skillful work of a taxidermist is extremely underated in my book. They bring to life our most valuable memories as well as our stories and freeze that moment in time for us to cherish forever. Today as I visited our taxidermist to pick up my nephew’s fish I was able to see a lot of species of animals in a wide array of different progress. I thought to myself “What a collection of stories and memories”. Could you imagine all of the hunter’s that had harvested these animals telling there stories together? Our taxidermist, Todd Buchanan of Buck’s Pro Mount, has a large responsibility on his shoulders to re-create each and every one of those stories. 

 I’m confident that all of these stories and memories are in good hands with Buck’s Pro Mount. Todd has been recreating these stories for hunters for over 27 years and does a wonderful job, after all he has been the recipient of multiple awards including the “Public’s Choice Award” from the 2003 Indiana Association of Taxidermist State Competition. 

Taking a trophy to the taxidermist is never a cheap affair, however it is a memory and piece of memorabilia that should last a life time and is worth the expense. The Young Buck deer attractant has become a part of my deer hunting arsenal. While using this product I like to pair it with the Doe-N-Estrus Gel or Social Doe Spray depending on the time of season. I mostly use Young Buck to freshen up active scrapes or apply to a drag each and every time I step into the woods. With this product I do prefer the liquid form. It can be used as a cover scent and is considered non invasive to either sex. I have watched both buck and doe come in on the Young Buck scent trail, nose down! This scent can be used all season but I have found that it is unbeatable if used during, pre, and post rut combined with Doe-N-Estrus. One of the most exciting deer lures I put on the ground this season was Mock Scrape Madness by Bust-A-Buck. We first started using MSM in late October. We applied a third of a bottle on the ground below an overhanging branch. We made the scrape about the size of a pizza pan, and refreshed the scrape two additional times through the season. Results, a scrape that was re-visited over and over and eventually becoming the size of a car hood! Mock Scrape Madness utilizes scent absorbent beads loaded with Doe-N-Estrus urine with the remainder of the bottle being filled with Young Buck urine to attract both young and mature whitetail. Having used different scents over the years to create Mock Scrapes I finally found one that drives the bucks crazy. The beads actually swell from moisture (rain, snow, dew) and continuously excrete the scent preventing you from having to constantly freshen up the scrape each time you go out to the woods. I can’t wait to use this product in the upcoming 2010 season.
